Zebra Cake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter in half, placing one half in a separate bowl. Mix in the cocoa powder into one half of the batter until fully incorporated.
  5. To create the zebra pattern, begin by dropping a spoonful of the vanilla batter into the center of the prepared cake pan. Then, drop a spoonful of the chocolate batter on top of the vanilla batter. Continue alternating between the two batters, letting them spread out on their own. This will create a bullseye pattern.
  6. Once all of the batter is used up, gently tap the pan on the counter to settle the batter and remove any air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool
