Vietnamese Pho

  1. In a large pot, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until fragrant.
  2. Add in cinnamon stick and star anise and continue to sauté for another minute.
  3. Add in the sliced beef and cook until lightly browned.
  4. Pour in beef broth, fish sauce, and sugar. Bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, cook the rice noodles according to package instructions.
  7. Once the broth has simmered, taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  8. Drain the cooked rice noodles and divide into serving bowls.
  9. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles, making sure to cover them completely.
  10. Add in desired amount of bean sprouts and fresh herbs.
  11. Serve with lime wedges and a side of Sriracha or chili sauce for extra heat.
