Vietnamese Pho
Ingredients:
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 inches of ginger root, sliced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
- 6 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 package of rice noodles
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1 cup fresh herbs (Thai basil, cilantro, mint)
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Sriracha or chili sauce
Instructions:
- In a large pot, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until fragrant.
- Add in cinnamon stick and star anise and continue to sauté for another minute.
- Add in the sliced beef and cook until lightly browned.
- Pour in beef broth, fish sauce, and sugar. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook the rice noodles according to package instructions.
- Once the broth has simmered, taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
- Drain the cooked rice noodles and divide into serving bowls.
- Ladle the hot broth over the noodles, making sure to cover them completely.
- Add in desired amount of bean sprouts and fresh herbs.
- Serve with lime wedges and a side of Sriracha or chili sauce for extra heat.
