Toffee

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add in the brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, stirring continuously until the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Continue to cook and stir the mixture for 7 minutes, until it turns a golden brown color.
  4. Remove from heat and pour onto a greased baking sheet.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  6. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the hot toffee.
  7. Let the chocolate chips melt for a minute, then spread them over the toffee with a spatula.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
  9. Place the toffee in the fridge to cool and set for at least 2 hours.
  10. Once set, remove from the fridge and break the toffee into smaller pieces with your hands or a knife.
