Tempura
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup ice-cold water
- 1 pound seafood or vegetables
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the ice-cold water.
- Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. The batter should be thin and lumpy.
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium-high heat.
- Dip the seafood or vegetables into the batter, coating them evenly.
- Gently place the coated ingredients into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
- Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
