Tart
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup fresh fruit (strawberries, peaches, apples, etc.)
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and butter. Use your fingers to rub the flour and butter together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add in the cold water, a little at a time, and mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Transfer the dough to a 9-inch tart pan and press the dough into the bottom and up the sides.
- In a small bowl, mix together the beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush a thin layer of the egg wash onto the bottom of the tart crust.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the fresh fruit, sugar, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Pour the fruit mixture into the tart crust and spread it out evenly.
- Bake the tart for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the tart to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
