Tamale
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of masa flour
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup lard or shortening
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cooked and shredded meat (chicken, pork or beef)
- 1/2 cup salsa or diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup diced onion
- 1/4 cup diced bell pepper
- 1/4 cup sliced olives
- 1/4 cup shredded cheese
- 12-15 dried corn husks
Instructions:
- Soak the corn husks in hot water for about 30 minutes to soften them.
- In a large bowl, mix masa flour, chicken or vegetable broth, lard or shortening, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix together shredded meat, salsa or diced tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, olives, and cheese.
- Drain the corn husks and pat dry with paper towels.
- Take a corn husk and spread a thin layer of the masa mixture on top, leaving 1-2 inches of space at the top and bottom.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture on top of the masa, then fold the sides of the corn husk towards the center, and roll the tamale tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining husks and filling.
- Place the tamales in a steamer basket
