Pho
Ingredients:
- 1 package of rice noodles
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon of ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds
- 1 pound of beef, thinly sliced
- 6 cups of beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup of bean sprouts
- 1 cup of Thai basil leaves
- 1/2 cup of cilantro leaves
- 1 jalapeno, sliced
- 4 lime wedges
- Hoisin sauce and sriracha for serving
Instructions:
- Soak the rice noodles in hot water for about 20 minutes until they are softened.
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat and add in the onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until fragrant.
- Add in the cinnamon stick, star anise, coriander seeds, and fennel seeds. Stir for about 30 seconds.
- Add in the thinly sliced beef and cook until browned.
- Add in the beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drain the rice noodles and add them to the pot. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove the cinnamon stick and star anise from the pot.
