Nougat
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of white sugar
- 1 cup of corn syrup
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1/2 cup of water
- 3 egg whites
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 cups of chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, honey, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil.
- Using a candy thermometer, cook mixture until it reaches the soft ball stage (235-240 degrees F).
- Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Slowly pour hot sugar mixture over the beaten egg whites, beating constantly until the mixture is thick and glossy.
- Add vanilla extract and continue beating until well combined.
- If desired, fold in chopped nuts.
- Pour mixture into a greased 9x9 inch pan and let cool completely.
- Once cooled, cut nougat into desired shapes and enjoy!
