Monte Cristo Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of thick sliced bread
- 4 slices of turkey deli meat
- 4 slices of ham deli meat
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Butter, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for garnish
- Raspberry or strawberry jam, for dipping
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Spread one side of each bread slice with a thin layer of Dijon mustard.
- On two bread slices, layer one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of ham, and one slice of turkey. Top with the remaining bread slices, mustard side down, to make sandwiches.
- In a large skillet, melt about 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Dip the sandwiches into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Once both sides are cooked, remove from the skillet and cut each sandwich in half diagonally to make four smaller sandwiches.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.
