Layer Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- Food coloring (optional)
- Frosting of your choice
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until fully combined and the batter is smooth.
- If desired, divide the batter into separate bowls and add food coloring to create layers of different colors.
- Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
