Layer Cake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until fully combined and the batter is smooth.
  5. If desired, divide the batter into separate bowls and add food coloring to create layers of different colors.
  6. Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
