Knish
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add in the vegetable oil and water, and mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- In a large skillet, sauté the potatoes and onion in butter until tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface, into a thin rectangle. Cut into 4 equal pieces.
- Place a spoonful of the potato mixture onto one half of each dough piece. Moisten the edges of the dough with water, then fold the other half over and press the edges to seal.
- Place the knishes onto a greased baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg, and make a few slits to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve hot and enjoy your homemade knishes!
