King Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Green, Yellow, and Purple food coloring
- 1 small plastic baby or charm (optional)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Colored sprinkles (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
- Gradually add in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, until everything is well combined.
- Divide the batter into three separate bowls, and add a few drops of green, yellow, and purple food coloring to each bowl. Stir until the colors are well incorporated.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, alternating between the three colors to create a swirl effect.
- If using, place the plastic baby or charm into the batter.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for
