Grits
Ingredients:
- 1 cup grits
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- Optional toppings: bacon, green onions, hot sauce
Instructions:
- In a large pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add 1 cup of grits and reduce heat to low.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a separate small pot, heat 1 cup of milk on low heat.
- Slowly pour the warm milk into the grits, stirring constantly.
- Add 1/2 tsp of salt and continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup of butter until melted.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of shredded cheese until well combined.
- Serve in bowls and top with desired toppings.
