German Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 ounces sweetened chocolate, melted
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs to the mixture, one at a time, stirring well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, until everything is well combined.
- Stir in the melted chocolate.
- Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
