German Chocolate Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs to the mixture, one at a time, stirring well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, until everything is well combined.
  7. Stir in the melted chocolate.
  8. Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
