Gelato

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine milk and cream over medium heat. Heat until mixture is hot but not boiling.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar and egg yolks until well combined.
  3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  6. If desired, mix in fresh fruit puree.
  7. Allow mixture to cool, then pour into an ice cream maker and churn for about 20 minutes.
  8. Transfer gelato to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
