Gelato
Ingredients:
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh fruit puree (optional)
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine milk and cream over medium heat. Heat until mixture is hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar and egg yolks until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- If desired, mix in fresh fruit puree.
- Allow mixture to cool, then pour into an ice cream maker and churn for about 20 minutes.
- Transfer gelato to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
