Fried Green Tomatoes
Ingredients:
- 6 green tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, mix together flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- In another shallow dish, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Dip tomato slices in the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, making sure to coat both sides.
- Carefully place tomato slices in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side.
- Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
