Fish and Chips

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Gradually add in the beer, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  4. While the batter is resting, prepare the potatoes by peeling and cutting them into thick strips.
  5. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Carefully place the potato strips into the hot oil and fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the potatoes from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Season with salt while they are still hot.
  8. In the same oil, fry the cod fillets for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and fully cooked.
  9. Once cooked, remove the fish from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve the fish and chips hot with your choice of dipping sauce. Enjoy!
