English Trifle
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of vanilla custard
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 package of ladyfingers
- 1/4 cup of sherry or brandy (optional)
- 1 pound of fresh strawberries
- 1/4 cup of sliced almonds
- 1/4 cup of grated chocolate
Instructions:
- In a medium sized bowl, prepare the vanilla custard according to package instructions. Set aside to cool.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- If using, add sherry or brandy to a shallow dish.
- One at a time, dip the ladyfingers into the liquor and then place them in the bottom of a glass trifle dish.
- Spread a layer of cooled custard over the ladyfingers.
- Top with a layer of whipped cream.
- Repeat layers of ladyfingers, custard, and whipped cream until all ingredients are used.
- Cut the tops off the strawberries and place them around the edge of the trifle dish, with the cut side facing out.
- Sprinkle sliced almonds and grated chocolate over the top of the trifle.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight before serving.
