English Trifle

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. In a medium sized bowl, prepare the vanilla custard according to package instructions. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  3. If using, add sherry or brandy to a shallow dish.
  4. One at a time, dip the ladyfingers into the liquor and then place them in the bottom of a glass trifle dish.
  5. Spread a layer of cooled custard over the ladyfingers.
  6. Top with a layer of whipped cream.
  7. Repeat layers of ladyfingers, custard, and whipped cream until all ingredients are used.
  8. Cut the tops off the strawberries and place them around the edge of the trifle dish, with the cut side facing out.
  9. Sprinkle sliced almonds and grated chocolate over the top of the trifle.
  10. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight before serving.
