Dulce de Leche

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Once sugar has dissolved, add in the baking soda and stir to combine.
  4. Continue stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and turns a light brown color. This can take about 30-40 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat once desired consistency is reached (remember it will thicken more as it cools).
  6. Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes before pouring into a jar or container to store in the fridge.
  7. Enjoy your homemade dulce de leche on your favorite desserts or as a spread on toast.
