Deep-Fried Turkey
Ingredients:
- 1 turkey (10-12 pounds)
- 2 gallons of peanut oil
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon of onion powder
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 1 tablespoon of dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 large frying pot
- 1 meat thermometer
- 1 pair of heat-resistant gloves
- 1 kitchen twine
Instructions:
- Thaw the turkey completely, if frozen. Make sure to remove any giblets or neck from the turkey's cavity.
- In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, oregano, and cayenne pepper to create a seasoning blend.
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and generously season all surfaces, including the cavity, with the seasoning blend.
- Using kitchen twine, truss the turkey's legs and wings to the body to keep them from burning during the frying process.
- Fill a large frying pot with peanut oil and heat it to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. The oil should be at least 3 inches deep.
- Carefully place the turkey into the hot oil, making sure it is fully submerged. Use heat-resistant gloves to protect your hands from splashes of hot oil.
- Fry the turkey for about 3-4 minutes per pound, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the turkey
