  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, oil, and egg.
  3. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
  4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cut into squares and serve warm with butter.
