Beignets
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined to form a smooth dough.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 2 inch squares.
- In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Carefully drop the squares of dough into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove the beignets from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Dust the beignets with powdered sugar while still warm.
