Beignets

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined to form a smooth dough.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 2 inch squares.
  6. In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  7. Carefully drop the squares of dough into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the beignets from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  9. Dust the beignets with powdered sugar while still warm.
  10. Serve and enjoy your homemade beignets!
