Bao Buns
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup diced chicken or pork
- 1/4 cup diced carrots
- 1/4 cup diced shiitake mushrooms
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, mix together yeast and warm water. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Add in yeast mixture, warm milk, and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour.
- In a separate bowl, mix together chicken or pork, carrots, mushrooms, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a long cylinder shape. Cut into 10-12 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece of dough and place a spoonful of the filling in the center. Gather the edges and pinch to
