Baklava
Ingredients:
- 1 pound phyllo dough
- 1 cup melted butter
- 2 cups chopped walnuts
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, mix together walnuts, 1/4 cup sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
- Place 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the prepared dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle 1/4 of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat layering with phyllo dough and nut mixture until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of phyllo dough on top.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into squares or diamonds, all the way to the bottom of the dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While baklava is baking, combine honey, water, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 20 minutes.
- When baklava is done, remove from oven and immediately pour
