Baked French Toast
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of day-old bread
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- Maple syrup for serving
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place in the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar.
- Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, making sure to coat all of them evenly.
- If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the entire dish.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight).
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread is cooked through.
- Serve with maple syrup and enjoy your delicious baked French toast!
