Baked Alaska

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Cut the pound cake into 1/2 inch slices and place on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven for 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
  3. Take the ice cream out of the freezer and let it soften at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
  4. Line a 9-inch round baking dish with plastic wrap, leaving enough overhang to cover the top of the ice cream later.
  5. Scoop the softened ice cream into the lined baking dish and smooth it out into an even layer.
  6. Cut the toasted pound cake slices into smaller pieces and press them gently into the ice cream, creating a crust.
  7. Cover the top with the plastic wrap overhang and place in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until the ice cream is completely firm.
  8. When ready to serve, preheat the broiler.
  9. In a medium bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until frothy.
  10. Add in the sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  11. Remove the Baked Alaska from the freezer and remove the plastic wrap.
