Apple Pie
Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 4-5 tbsp ice water
- 8 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add in cold diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add in ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together and forms a ball.
- Divide the dough into two equal parts, flattening them into discs. Wrap each disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a separate mixing bowl, mix together sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface until it's about 12 inches in diameter. Place it into the prepared pie dish and trim the edges.
- Pour the apple filling into the pie crust, spreading it evenly. Drizzle melted butter on top of the filling.
