Apple Fritters

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir until well combined.
  4. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. In a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375 degrees F.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, cooking until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off excess oil.
  8. Dust the fritters with powdered sugar and serve warm.
